This louis juvénile du Béarn, tête laurée et au buste drapé was struck 1665-79 but all dates are rare. Judging from the number of écus minted in St. Palais, Morlaàs and Pau in this period, a substantial amount of silver was crossing the Pyrenees from Spain but little gold. All louis d'or juvénile of this period are rare, probably because of the overstrikings of the 1690's. This example was offered again as lot 1478 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (December 2022), where it sold for €8,500 (about US$10,748 including buyer's fees).
Recorded mintage: unknown but very rare.
Specification: 6.75 g, 24 mm diameter, plain edge, this specimen 6,66 g.
