This specimen was lot 904 in Jean Elsen sale 131 (Brussels, December 2016), where it sold for €180 (about US$226 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

" FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIII (1610-1643), AR huitième d'écu, 1629L, Bayonne. 1er type. D/ Croix fleurdelisée. R/ Ecu de France couronné, entre V-III. Rare Petit éclat du flan. Belle patine. Très Beau. (kingdom of France, Louis XIII (1610-43), silver eighth ecu of 1629, Bayonne mint, first type. Obverse: floriate cross; reverse: crowned arms of France divide "V-III." Rare, small rim bump, nice toning, very fine.)"

This eighth écu was struck by the hammer at many mints starting in the time of Henry III (1580) and continuing into the reign of Louis XIV (1651).

Specification: 4.85 g, 0.833 fine silver, 24-26 mm diameter, this specimen 4,33 g.
