France 1583-K franc

This specimen was lot 73313 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Franc, 1583-K. Bordeaux Mint. Henry III. PCGS AU-50. The only example of the date and mint in the PCGS census, this barely handled specimen presents a gunmetal gray nature paired with some enchanting golden notes around the devices." This franc d'argent had a face value of 20 sols tournois and was struck 1575-86. The subtype with the flat collar (shown here) is Dupl-1130: the one with the ruffed collar is Dupl-1130A.
