The specimen shown is a franc au col plat of Henry III of France (r. 1574-89) struck by the hammer at the Limoges mint (mintmark "I") in 1577. Duplessy lists this type for 1575-86 from numerous mints. This is a rare date, with none reported in Sombart's survey[1].

Recorded mintage: 15,612 including demi-francs.

Specification: 14.18 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 6.54 g.
