Sincona sale 54, lot 342

This specimen was lot 342 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$446 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, konigreich, Charles IX. 1560-1574. Ecu dor au soleil 1569 B, Rouen. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Kratzer. (kingdom of France, Charles IX, 1560-74, gold écu of the sunburst of 1569, Rouen mint. Good very fine, Small scratch.)"

This coin is called the écu d'or au soleil in Duplessy[2] with a face value of fifty sols tournois and is noted with many variations in obverse and reverse legends.

Recorded mintage: 26,600[3].
