This specimen was lot 1666 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KÖNIGREICH François I, 1515-1547. 1/2 Teston o. J. (1540-1547), 19. Typ, A, Paris. Gutes Porträt. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Francis I, 1515-47, undated half teston of about 1540-47, Paris mint. Nice portrait, edge cracks, choice extremely fine.)"
Numismatists divide the coinage of Francis I into two periods, separated by the introduction of modern mintmarks in 1540. Duplessy lists 28 types of silver demi-testons from this reign, of which types 19 thru 28 were minted with mintmarks. None are dated. This one, catalogued as type 19, is noted for the Paris (mintmark "A") and Rouen (mintmark "B") mints.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
