This specimen was lot 55271 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu d'Or, ND (1498-1515)-T. Tarascon Mint. Louis XII. PCGS AU-50. From an Old Brooklyn Collection." This coin had a face value of 36 sols, 3 deniers tournois. Duplessy notes that it was struck at Tarascon and Aix, both towns in Provence. While the écu d'or struck in the rest of France had the legend "LVDOVICVS:DEI:GRA:FRANCORVM:REX", this one had "LVDOVICVS:D:G:FRANCO:REX:PROVIN:CO" (Louis, by the grace of God, king of France and count of Provence).
