France (1422) blanc
This specimen was lot 1007 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €180 (about US$257 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Henri VI d'Angleterre (1422-1453), billon blanc aux écus, novembre 1422, Paris (couronne initiale). D/ Ecus accostés de France et de France-Angleterre, sous HERICVS. R/ Croix latine pleine accostée d'un lis et d'un léopard, au-dessus de HERICVS. Fines griffes. Très Beau. (kingdom of France, Henry VI of France and England, 1422-53, billon blank of the shields, November 1422, Paris mint (inital crown). Obverse: the king's name over the shields of France and England; reverse: Latin cross between a lily and a leopard, the king's name below. Fine scratches, Very Fine.)"
This blanc aux écus was worth ten deniers tournois. The English also issued a florette worth twenty deniers. English control of northern France and the mints located there lasted only until 1436.
