Jean Elsen sale 146, lot 1247

This specimen was lot 1247 in Jean Elsen sale 146 (Brussels, November 2020), where it sold for €120 (about US$175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR patagon, 1645, Brugge. Vz/ Gekroond stokkenkruis met een vuurijzer tussen het jaartal en het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild omringd door de keten van het Gulden Vlies. Barstjes in de muntplaat. bijna Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver patagon of 1645, Bruges mint. Obverse: Burgundian cross with the date and the jewels of the Golden Fleece; reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Planchet cracks, about Very Fine.)"

The type shown here was struck at the Bruges mint 1622-65. The other provinces issued this type, including Artois, Brabant, Tournai and Luxembourg.
