(Radical Protestants took power in the rebel city of Ghent and founded an independent Calvinist republic. Nobles, half nobles and quarter nobles were struck there. Those dated 1581 and 1582 bear the arms of François d'Alençon. After September 1582, the lilies of France were replaced by two joined hands. In 1583, a lion appeared on the banner. The capture of Ghent by Alexander Farnese in 1584 put an end to the coinage of the city.)"

Ghent was already declining in importance when the rebellion started but never recovered her position after Philip II devastated it in 1584. Her harbor silted up and trade shifted to the north. This type was accompanied by half (Fr-245) and quarter nobles (Fr-247).

Recorded mintage: unknown.
