Jean Elsen sale 155, lot 1537

This specimen was lot 1537 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it sold for €650 (about US$852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips II (1555-1598), AR halve Bourgondische rijksdaalder, 1570, Brugge. Vz/ Vuurijzer op stokkenkruis. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild omringd door de keten van het Gulden Vlies. Zeldzaam. Mooie patina. Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Philip II, 1555-98, silver half Burgundian rixdollar of 1570, Bruges mint. Obverse: Burgundian cross; reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around, Scarce, nice patina, Very Fine.)"

This scarce type was also struck in Antwerp for Brabant. That coin has the obverse legend, "PHS·D:G·HISP·Z·REX·DVX·BRA·".
