Finland 1918 5 pennia KM-21
The first specimen was lot 3943 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "Finland. 5 Pennia, 1918. Civil War Coinage - Liberated Finnish government Issue. Knot centered. NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown." The second specimen was lot 483 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$302 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Coins of the Provisional Government Finland Civil War, Liberated Finish government, 1918. 5 Penniä 1918, Helsinki Mint. NGC MS64 RB. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung, Extraordinary condition." Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence. This scarce coin was issued by the provisional government prior to its reorganization as the Republic of Finland. The Republic five penniä of 1918 (KM 22) is common.
