Heritage sale 3064, lot 30731
Finland H3064-30731r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30731 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russian Duchy. Nicholas II gold 10 Markkaa 1905-L MS66 NGC. With a very low mintage of 43,000 this is a key date within the 10 Markkaa series, and is a sight to behold. Every precise detail stands out prominently indicative of a well-executed strike, backlit by gleaming mirrorlike fields and a slight frosty luster. An example graded MS65 NGC realized $2,800 hammer in our auction 3049 in September 2016, and we expect even greater excitement over this higher certified Gem example." This type is listed for 1879-82, 1904-05 and 1913 and was struck to the standard of a French gold ten francs.

Recorded mintage: 43,000.

Specification: 3.22 g, 0.900 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 8.2, Fr-6.
