Fiji 1982 20 cents rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen was issued by the Fiji Islands as one of a type minted 1969-85. Sterling coinage was issued for the islands starting in 1934. World War Two issues were extensively saved by military personnel stationed there and those are the dates most commonly seen today. Decimal conversion occurred in 1967-69, the same time as Britain. Fiji left the British Commonwealth in 1987 but rejoined in 1997. This coin is a product of the Canberra Mint; the object on the reverse is a tabua on a braided sennit cord.

Recorded mintage: 1,500,000 + 3,000 proofs.

Specification: 11.31 g, copper-nickel, 28.5 mm diameter, same as the old florin.

Catalog reference: KM 31.
