Sincona sale 59, lot 1627

This specimen was lot 1627 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Ferrara, Alfonso II. d'Este, 1559-1597. Ducato 1596. Gutes sehr schön. (duchy of Ferrara, Alfonso II d'Este, 1559-97, ducat of 1596. Good very fine.)"

Alfonso II was the last independent duke of Ferrara and upon his death without heirs the duchy was forcibly incorporated into the Papal State. He issued a scudo d'oro (Fr-272), a ducat (minted 1596-97 and shown here) and a half ducat (Fr-274).
