This specimen was lot 42101 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Farrukhabad. Rupee, AH 1189 Year 17 (1775). in the name of Shah Alam II. PCGS AU-58." Farrukhabad was founded early in the eighteenth century by an Afghan chief. After struggles with its neighbors, Farrukhabad became a vassal of Awadh, who finally ceded it to the British in 1801. This type was struck years 1-39 (AH 1175-1215).
