Falkland Islands 1982 50 pence KM-18
This specimen was lot 1729 in Sincona sale 86 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,848 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof 50 Pence 1982, Royal Mint Llantrisant for Falkland Islands. 47.77 g. Gold. Commemorating the liberation of the Falkland Islands from Argentina. Sehr selten. Nur 25 Exemplare geprägt, Mit Originaletui, Very rare. Only 25 pieces struck. NGC PF67 ULTRA CAMEO. With original box."
This NCLT was struck in copper-nickel, sterling silver and gold formats. Another fifty pence exists (KM 14.1) having the usual heptagonal shape as struck 1980-87, 1992-95.
Recorded mintage: unknown in copper-nickel, about 25,000 in silver and 25 in gold.
Specification: copper-nickel, 38.5 mm diameter, or 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver, or 47.54 g, 0.917 fine gold.
