Erfurt 1637 thaler Dav-5274
This specimen was lot 30870 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Erfurt. City Taler 1637 MS63 NGC. Extremely rare quality for this rare one-year issue, attractively toned in original multicolored shades on both sides, with visible luster remaining over the well-preserved surfaces. For accuracy's sake, we note a touch of striking softness in the upper left quadrant of the reverse shield, but all elements of the design are still apparent. All considered, rather elite for this city issue, and quite possibly the finest of its type to exist. Certainly worthy of strong consideration from the world-class taler enthusiast. From the Jamestown Collection."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
