SB124-52061 rev.jpg
Erbach in 1648, from Droysen's atlas

This specimen was lot 52061 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $930. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Erbach-Furstenau. 15 Kreuzer, 1691-ID. NGC MS-63. The sole finest graded specimen, the present example delivers an enticing mint brilliance, with shimmering brilliance and a clarity of details that is oft-missing from similar pieces." The county of Erbach, in Hesse, was subdivided several times in the seventeenth century, the details of which are too tedious to relate. The remnants were annexed to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1803. The coinage of Erbach-Furstenau is very scanty.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-16.
