This specimen was lot 7496 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. Entre Rios. 1/2 Real, 1867. VERY SCARCE. Toned. PCGS MS-61." This coin was issued during a monetary shortage arising from the War of the Triple Alliance fought 1865-70 (Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay vs. Paraguay). Entre Rios was a border town far from Buenos Aires and close to the fighting. The central government issued no coinage between 1854 and 1881.
