This specimen was lot 33626 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth I 6 Pence 1572 AU53 NGC. Mintmark ermine. Intermediate bust. A first class example with incredibly sharp detail for the type." The first milled coinage made in England appeared at this time, but the process was slow and expensive. Hammered coinage would continue until the 1660's and would not be taken out of circulation until the 1690's.
