This centavo was minted at the Heaton mint for El Salvador in 1913. This odd denomination was intended to displace the predecimal quarter reales still circulating in remote parts. On the obverse of the coin is the image of Francisco Morazán, who defeated Guatemalan attempts to conquer Central America, thereby establishing Salvadoran independence.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: copper-nickel, 3.3 g, 20 mm diameter.
