The first specimen was lot 9089 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $1840. The catalog description[1] noted, "EL SALVADOR. Provisional Coinage. 2 Reales, 1828-F.P.s. Obverse: POR LA LIVERTAD . SALV . 10Ds 20Gs Reverse: MONEDA . PROVISIONAL . F.P.s 1828; VERY RARE. Nice surfaces, full legends, softly struck in centers. Nicely toned with some original luster. Probably ABOUT UNCIRCULATED." The second specimen was lot 33579 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,240. The catalog description[2] noted, "El Salvador: Republic Provisional 2 Reales 1828-FP AU55 NGC, San Salvador mint. Variety with "Libertad Salv" on the reverse legend. A rare provisional issue that stands as the tied-finest example at NGC in this near-Mint State designation. Draped in steel patina, with legible legends and typical light striking softness throughout, the reverse displaying charming honeyed iridescence that amplifies the uniqueness of this Central American rarity."
