Sincona sale 59, lot 2321

This specimen was lot 2321 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$242 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSMANISCHES REICH | Mahmûd II. 1223-1255 H./1808-1839 AD, 1/2 Mamdûhîye Altin (Onluk) 1223 H./Jahr 29, Misr (Kairo). Tughra mit 'adlî in Wellenband mit gestielten Blättern, Rv. Mzst. und Jahr des Regierungsanfangs, oben Regierungsjahr, im Wellenband wie im Avers. Vorzüglich. (Turkey, Mahmud II, 1808-39, half altin of AH 1223, year 29, Cairo mint. Extremely fine.)"

Two types of gold ten qirsh were struck in year 29; this one, with a wreath design, and KM 213, with plain sides. This type is the commoner despite being struck years 28-29 only.

Specification: 0.85 g, 0.875 fine gold, this specimen 0.70 g.
