Sincona sale 59, lot 2322

This specimen was lot 2322 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$303 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSMANISCHES REICH | Mahmûd II. 1223-1255 H./1808-1839 AD, 10 Qurûsh 1223 H./Jahr 29, Misr (Kairo). Tughra mit 'adlî über Wertangabe, Rv. Mzst. und Jahr des Regierungsanfangs, oben Regierungsjahr. Fast vorzüglich. (Turkey, Mahmud II, 1808-39, ten qirsh of AH 1223, year 29, Cairo mint. About extremely fine.)"

Two types of gold ten qirsh were struck in year 29; this one, with a plain design, and KM 213, with a wreath on both sides. This type is the scarcer despite being struck years 29-32.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.85 g, 0.875 fine gold, this specimen 0.80 g.
