The coin shown is a billon one qirsh from the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan enclosed by an ornate border. The date is written on the reverse as AH 1223 year 21, which translates to about 1827 AD.

The specimen shown was sold as part of lot 13208 on Sept 9, 2004 at the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357, for $149.50. The catalog description reads "Mahmud II Billon Piastre 1223AH, regnal years 21, dark Fine, 22 Fine, 23 holed Fine, 24 holed VF, 24 Fine, 25 nice VF+, 26, VG and XF. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
