The coin shown is a silver one medin from the reign of Mahmud I. It is a crudely hammered coin produced at the Cairo Mint. The obverse features the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, while the reverse shows the ascension date and the text 'minted in Misr' (Misr is Egypt). The ascension date is written as AH 1143, which is about 1730 AD.
