This specimen was lot 472 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $440.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Mehmet III, 1595-1603, AV sultani, Misr, AH1003, nice strike, EF, ex Hazerfans Collection." Mehmet III had nineteen of his brothers and half brothers strangled upon his succession to the throne. He drank himself to death at the age of 37, having accomplished little against the encroaching Austrians and Transylvanians.
