Ecuador 1900 10 sucres
This specimen was lot 1741 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1900 10 Sucres. Birmingham mint. MS-61 (NGC). Types as above. Lustrous medium gold. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck 1899-1900. In comparison to the fantastically rare and expensive gold pieces of 1828-56, such as this 1856 8 escudos, this coin is common. Still, most specimens remain in Quito and those for sale usually bring prices well over the SCWC values. The gold content matches that of the British sovereign.
