This specimen is one of 50,000 struck in Birmingham, England, for the government of Ecuador. Coins dated 1900 are also known. It was lot 2178 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006), where it sold for $230. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ecuador. 10 Sucres, 1899-JM (Birmingham). Head of General Sucre. Reverse: Arms. Extremely Fine." The SCWC noted that most are still in government's vaults; specimens offered for sale frequently bring over catalog value. Altho slightly heavier, it has the same gold content as a British sovereign and the Peruvian libra.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: 8.13 g, 0.900 fine gold, .235 troy oz.

Catalog reference: Fr 10, KM 56.
