The specimen shown was lot 1194 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $69. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ecuador (struck in England), copper-nickel 1/2 decimo, 1886-HEATON-BIRMINGHAM. Lightly toned AXF with minor rim-flaws." This one year type is from the Heaton mint, which minted half centavo, one centavo, half decimo, decimo, two decimos, half sucre and one sucre coins for Ecuador in 1884. This type was minted again in 1886 but in 1893 converted to silver.
Recorded mintage: 600,000 plus a few proofs.
