The first specimen shown was lot 1186 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $195.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ecuador (struck in England), 1/2 sucre, 1884-HEATON / BIRMINGHAM. Beautifully blue-toned XF, no problems." This one year type is from the Heaton mint, which minted half centavo, one centavo, half decimo, decimo, two decimos, half sucre and one sucre coins for Ecuador in 1884. The other denominations were issued again but not the half sucre, rendering it scarce.
Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 12.5 grams.
Catalog reference: KM-52.
