East Germany 1973-A 10 mark KM-44
This specimen was lot 6635 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK, 1949-1990. 10 Mark 1973. X. Weltfestspiele der Jugend und Studenten. Französische Prägung (Rückseite kopfstehend). Seltene Variante. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, people's republic, 1949-90, ten mark of 1973, tenth Youth Festival Games. Scarce variety with rotated reverse. About uncirculated.)"
This circulating commemorative was struck for the communist regime. The SCWC does not mention the rotation error; the regular issue has a low price altho there is little demand for East German issues.
Recorded mintage: 1,500,000.
Specification: copper-nickel, 31 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 44, J. 1545.
