Stephen Album sale 47, lot 1451

This specimen was lot 1451 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "EAST AFRICA: George VI, 1936-1952, AR shilling, 1937-H, an extremely rare Heaton Mint specimen strike, NGC graded Specimen 65, RRR." East Africa was an administrative grouping of the British colonies of Kenya, Uganda and British Somaliland. Tanganyika was added in 1919 after it was seized from the Germans. The original currency system was 100 cents = one florin (2 shillings). In 1922, this was changed to 100 cents = 1 shilling. In 1920 Uganda was dropped from the title on the reverse. This type was struck 1937 and 1941-44 at Bombay and Heaton.
