This specimen was lot 33552 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Dominican Republic: Republic 1/2 Peso 1947 MS65 PCGS. A scarcer date, presenting lovely toned fields and sharp motifs." The specimen shown was struck for the Dominican Republic towards the end of the regime of Rafael Trujillo, among the more brutal of Latin America's long roll of bloodthirsty dictators. Soon after his assassination in 1961, the capital, which he had renamed Ciudad Trujillo, reverted to its former name, Santo Domingo. The type was struck 1937-61; this date is common up thru Extremely Fine.
