The first specimen was lot 41098 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. 1/4 Real, 1848. NGC VF-35. Variety with plain "4". Moderately circulated but still boldly detailed and attractively toned. From the EMO Collection." The second specimen was lot 41102 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. 1/4 Real, 1848. NGC AU-55. Variety with crosslet "4". A wholesome brass issue with rustic patina and crisp originality. From the EMO Collection." This rather scarce issue may have been struck at a private mint in the United States.
