Stack's Bowers November 2015 sale, lot 42191

This specimen was lot 42191 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Kroner, 1953-NS. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Greenland TB Commemorative. Only coin around that depicts the island of Greenland. Nearly all white with lots of luster." Altho the regular issue (KM 838.1) was aluminum bronze, the mint returned to silver for this commemorative, which is fairly common in all grades. It honored a campaign to eradicate tuberculosis from Greenland. The SCWC notes that altho it is dated 1953, it was issued in 1956.
