Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 31297
SB125-31297r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31297 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $20,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "A Major 20th Century Gold Rarity Never Released for Circulation, DENMARK. 20 Kroner, 1931. Copenhagen Mint. Christian X. NGC MS-65. EXTREMELY RARE as an issue, this example displays impressive satiny frost in the fields with attractive orange-gold coloration and minimal signs of past handling. For either the Danish specialist or the collector of trophy items in gold, a monumental opportunity, as only three examples have been seen by NGC and PCGS combined with the same number appearing at auction over the past two decades. While perhaps obvious, it should be noted that due to his death almost a decade earlier, no examples of this great rarity are present in the massive Scandinavian collection of L. E. Bruun." This type was struck 1913-17 and 1926-31. None of the later dates were released for circulation and are today very rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,285,000 for 1930-31; not released.

Specification: 8.96 g, 0.900 fine gold, 23 mm diameter, designed by Gunnar Jensen.

Catalog reference: Fr-299; KM-817.3; Sieg-3.3.
