CNG Lissner sale, lot 208

This specimen was lot 208 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $157.30. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Frederik VIII. 1906-1912. AR 2 Kroner. Commemorating the accession of Frederik. København (Copenhagen) mint. Vilhelm Burchard Poulsen, mintmaster. Knud Gunnar Jensen, engraver. Dated 29 January 1906 GJ VBP. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem beautifully toned uncirculated. None graded higher." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone. As with many Scandinavian commemoratives, it is fairly common. This specimen sold for less than the catalog value, one of the few lots in this sale to do so.

Recorded mintage: 151,000.

Specification: 15 g, 0.800 fine silver, this specimen 31 mm diameter, 15.02 g, 12h axis.

Catalog reference: KM 803; Y 25.
