Denmark 1888-CS 10 ore
This specimen was lot 73518 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 10 Ore, 1888-CS. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IX. NGC MS-63. Prooflike contrast on the obverse gives this excellent little minor enhanced appeal. Fully argent except for some gentle mottled russet tone, it is a desirable Choice piece." This type was struck 1874-75, 1882-91, of which only the 1889 and 1891 are common. It is part of the reform of 1874 which decimalized Danish coinage, dropping the old skillings, rigsbankdalers and fredericks d'or. This coin was struck to the same standard as the Swedish ten öre.
Recorded mintage: 306,000, a rare date.
Specification: 1.45 g, 0.400 fine silver, 16 mm diameter.
