CNG Lissner sale, lot 189

This specimen was lot 189 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $169.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Frederik VII. 1848-1863. AR 16 Skilling Rigsmont. København (Copenhagen) mint. Georg Wilhelm Svendsen, mintmaster. Frederik Christopher Krohn, engraver. Dated 1858 FK VS. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem BU with a hint of patina. Highest ever graded and extremely rare so choice. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, August 1981." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This type is listed for 1856-58 only. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone.
