This specimen was lot 1136 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$848 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK, Christian VII. 1766-1808. 12 Mark 1783, Altona. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. Prüfspur am Rand. (kingdom of Denmark, Christian VII, 1766-1808, twelve mark of 1783, Altona mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Small scratches, Test mark on edge.)"

The second specimen was lot 10369 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$1,876). The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. 12 Mark (Courant Ducat), 1783-CHL. Altona Mint. Christian VII. NGC AU-58. Lustrous around the devices From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922)." Altho the this coin quacks like a ducat, it is too light and too low in fineness to qualify. It was actually a twelve mark altho the government called them "ducats courant" in the hopes that merchants would accept them as full ducats. It is unlikely anyone was fooled for long. Until 1813, one ducat = 2 speciedaler = 12 mark = 192 skilling Danske. Other varieties for 1783 include KM 641.1 (1783-CHL, no B below bust) and KM 641.3 (1783-HSK). The denomination was last struck in 1785.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.12 g, 0.875 fine gold, the first specimen 3.11 g. the second specimen is 3.11 g.

Catalog reference: KM 641.2, Hede 4 B. Fr-281. The second specimen is KM-641; Fr-281; Hede-4; Sieg-27.2; Schou-1; FP-44.2; Bruun-7848.
