Denmark 1749-W reisedaler Dav-1301
This specimen was lot 30085 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $10,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark. Frederick V Reisedaler (6 Mark) 1749-W MS63 NGC, Copenhagen mint. A very rare travel type, and one which a quick survey of recent auction records suggests is one of a mere six examples to have come to auction over the last decade. While produced under the auspices of the Danish Asiatic Company to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the House of Oldenburg in Denmark, the fact that the type was minted in 0.833 (Krone) fineness suggests that it was intended to circulate domestically in Denmark rather than abroad. Presently the finest of only two certified by NGC, the features show a fine stippled texture which, when paired with the luster of the surfaces, leaves little room for improvement. Ex. Grundy Collection (Heritage Auction #3004, January 2009, Lot 20753). From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns."
Recorded mintage: 5,008 (including mintmaster PCW).
