Denmark 1710 2 ducats Fr-237
This specimen was lot 1132 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €22,800 (about US$25,267 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Alluring and Barely Circulated Double Ducat of the Highest Rarity, DENMARK. 2 Ducats, 1710. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik IV. NGC AU-58. Mintmaster: Christian Wineke. Apart from this example, only the one in the National Museum of Denmark has so far been registered, highlighting the EXTREME RARITY, and consequently, demand for the date. The present Ducat is pleasingly detailed, with only light touches of circulation and nearly complete details. A reserved canary yellow color is seen on the surfaces, giving this piece a distinguished appeal and appearance. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922)."
In 1710, the king also struck a single ducat (Fr-238), both types being struck again in 1711.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.98 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 6.93 g.
