Künker Auction 439, lot 2033

This specimen was lot 2033 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,302 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DÄNEMARK, KÖNIGREICH Frederik IV., 1699-1730. Dukat 1708, Kopenhagen. Münzmeister Christian Wineke (der Jüngere). GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr schön +. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick IV, 1699-1730, ducat of 1708, Copenhagen mint. Extremely rare, very fine or better.)"

In addition to this rare type, the king also had struck another ducat (KM 484) featuring Ft. Christiansborg. Wikipedia comments,

"While Denmark's trading posts in India were of little note, it played an important role in the highly lucrative Atlantic slave trade, through its trading outposts in Fort Christiansborg in Osu, Ghana through which 1.5 million slaves were traded. While the Danish colonial empire was sustained by trade with other major powers, and plantations – ultimately a lack of resources led to its stagnation."
