This specimen was lot 32181 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $11,750. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark, Frederik III Speciedaler 1704 MS63 NGC. A fully original Choice Mint State early speciedaler. This is a rare and desirable type, with fewer than a dozen examples having been auctioned off in the last 15 years. Beautiful cabinet tone with significant underlying luster, this is a coin that should appeal to both the Danish specialist as well as the general world crown collector. One small mark on the cheek of Frederik serves as a diagnostic for this piece, but it does not distract the eye. An all around lovely piece." Ninety six skilling danske made a specie daler. This rare type was the last specie daler struck until 1747. A variety exists with a plain edge.

Recorded mintage: 300.

Specification: 28.89 g, 0.875 fine silver, lettered edge.

Catalog reference: KM 480.1, Dav-1288.
