This specimen was lot 10175 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €2,040 (about US$2,126). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Speciedaler, 1631-PG. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU Details--Obverse Tooled. Scarce date. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: H. H. J. Lynge Collection (Copenhagen-1899) Lot # 779. Ex: C. F. Benzon Collection (Copenhagen-1885/1888) Lot # 665." Throughout the sixteenth century, one speciedaler was 96 skilling; at some point in the 1620's, it was raised to 144 skilling and then back to 96 skilling. When the dust had settled, the speciedaler, formerly four marks or 1⅓ krone, was now six marks or 1½ krone. This type was struck 1624-34 along with a double speciedaler (Dav-3523). Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
