Denmark (1611) sosling
This specimen was lot 10188 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €216 (about US$225). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Søsling, ND. (1611). Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC EF-45. Better type. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This undated type is basically copper with a tincture of silver. It was probably worth 1/128 speciedaler. Numerous varieties exist (KM 47.1 thru KM 47.3). The next søsling of 1624 was pure copper. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.01 g, 0.125 fine silver, 16 mm diameter.
