Steve Album sale 51, lot 2858

This specimen was lot 2858 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $72. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANZIG: 10 pfennig, 1920, just the slightest hint of obverse oxidation, one-year type, a bit dull, but miniscule wear, AU." This 10 pfennige piece was issued in the aftermath of World War One as the Free City of Danzig was getting organized. Its crude design and zinc fabric suggest that it is notgeld rather than an official issue. Another design, with a larger "10" on the reverse (KM Tn2) was also used for this denomination. A few were struck in silver for presentation. Like many zinc coins, it is difficult to find in presentable condition.

Recorded mintage: 876,000.

Specification: 2.05 g, zinc, 21.5 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM-Tn1.
