Danish West Indies 1740-CW 12 skilling
The first specimen was part of lot 22447 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), which sold for $805. The catalog description[1] noted, "Danish Colony Four Coin Lot, 12 Skilling 1740, 1764, 1767, 24 Skilling 1767. Average grades are F-VF. All four coins have sailing ship motifs, and all four are tough to find." The second specimen was lot 71335 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[2] noted, "DANISH WEST INDIES. 12 Skilling, 1740-CW. Copenhagen Mint; mm: heart. Christian VI. NGC AU-58. This beautiful and limited circulated specimen yields a soft luster and strong rainbow toning across the surfaces. A most wholesome example for the specialist seeking to add to their collection." This type was issued 1740 and is scarce in all grades. It was accompanied by copper one and two skillings.
